Keith Daniel Godfrey a.k.a mewe Artist Statement
mewe created large-scale mural works at our UNTiTLED gallery in April 2022. He use’s repetition, fragmented text, layering and abstraction to echo the psychological experiences of being repeatedly punished for being dyslexic.

LUMINOUS is an all-abilities theatre company based on the artist ensemble. Director, Tania Lieman, leads the ensemble and pulls together the teams best suited to serving the artists and the shows that they are creating. Resident theatre company of Darwin Community Arts, Luminous trains weekly and are currently exploring blacklight theatre and working on their first play for children titled ‘Trash Magic’. Tania Lieman Producer/Writer,/Director/Puppet maker, Puppeteer Kyle Adams – Performer, Puppeteer and Sound Designer Omri Mason – Performer, Puppeteer and Designer Bryn Whackett – Performer/Puppeteer El IBo – Performer/Puppeteer Manny Dado – Head Puppeteer, Performer.
Artists are mentored by Tania Lieman and Manny Dado.
This project was first funded by Arts NT for Strategic Development Initiative for employment pathways and training for artists with a disability. This also included Rebecca Hell as a puppeteer/performer and to contribute deaf signing for songs. Rebecca will participate in the Darwin season performances.

Dream Animate
Eight animations drawn and edited on either mobile phones or iPads for our DIY Animate workshop program (2020-21). The theme was ‘dreams during the covid pandemic’. The workshops were facilitated by Levin Diatschenko and Jack Tinapple. This DCA program was kindly funded by a Digital Adaption Grant from the Northern Territory Government and coordinated by Georgia Glen.
Annie Moors Artist Residency
Annie Moors is a Yurrwi/Milingimbi woman and emerging visual artist based in Darwin. Much of Annie’s artistic practice and subject matter is related to her Yolngu culture, family and country of Yurrwi/Milingimbi in North East Arnhem Land. This residency was centred around a mentorship program. Annie is one of the artists participating in DCA’s Arts Access program.

The Free Space Studio artists exhibition Who We Are featured ten artists and was on display at four locations around Darwin, through the City Of Darwin’s Citylife Platform.

Talking to the future
In this publication, we hear from 5 visual artists from the Free Space Studio, as they discuss their artworks in response to the theme of Talking To The Future. The artists works explore the theme in many interesting ways – from planning parties; to the importance of family, to pop-culture and saving the environment.
